My last week

Yesterday we celebrated Holi at Vidya. And it was also my last day working at the placement. I can't believe it is already over. This week was very short because of Holi on Wednesday, and the school is closed both Thursday and Friday. So my last day was Tuesday. I am going to miss seeing these kids so much! They are all so great, each and every one of them. Never did I imagine I would connect with these kids as well as I have. My time spent at Vidya has taught me so much. I learned that things like compassion and friendship are universal. I have realized how much relationships are valued here, not just between family members, but with friends and other people. But I think the most important thing I have realized is that even though I cannot change their situation or sometimes I think the work I am doing doesn't have that great of an effect, it actually does. Just by showing that I care and contributing a little of my time to these kids and this country, I will have gained so much more than I have given. I am grateful for all the kids and people I have met at my placement. They remind me that even in a country like India, with all its poverty and pollution and people, there is so much hope here. So much potential. And a reminder to look at this place and not feel pity or sadness, but to look beyond that and see that these people are just like you and me. We are all humans and caring for each other is just human nature.
