My first day

So yesterday was an extremely long day! First thing I learned, never ever wear jeans in a city of 75% humidity. Never again. Haha but luckily shorts are acceptable here so I will be wearing those and capris from now on. We had our orientation day yesterday. It was so awesome meeting everyone. I met people from Australia, New Zealand, England, Portugal, Denmark, Canada, and all over the U.S. That was really neat. There are about 12 new volunteers including me and everyone here is already so nice. We just had a long discussion and presentation that our program directors gave to us. They also taught us a little Khmer as well. For lunch, they took us over to the Russian Market which was within walking distance from the main office so that was nice. Lunch was delicious. Oh man I don't even really know what I was eating but it was some type of rice noodle with some type of eggroll in some type of sauce. It was so good!! Then after walking around the market for some time, we had to find our way back to the office on our own. That was challenging but we made it. And then the rest of the afternoon we had more discussion. Then they dropped us all back at our accommodation sites. Most of the volunteers are staying at the TATTOO Guesthouse, but only about 3 of the new volunteers, myself included, are staying with a host family. I really like the host family accommodations. Not only is the family super nice, but you get all three meals and your own room as well as your own bathroom. I'm still trying to adjust to the heat and humidity. It's taking some time and its a bit uncomfortable, but I have been conscious to remember to drink TONS of water and shower a ton. So while I'm not completely accustomed to the Cambodian style of living or over jet lag, I have already met some super cool people and me and some of the other volunteers were planning to maybe travel to Siem Reap this weekend to go see Angkor Wat! That would be cool. Tomorrow we are having a Phnom Penh city tour which include the Killing Fields of Cambodia. Oh jeez. And Wednesday we go to our program site for the first time with one of the staff members. Me and another volunteer, Ruby, are both assigned to COLT. So that should be fun. But I just wanted to let you guys know it it's going so far. And by the way, the place I am staying at has wifi so do not hesitate me to shoot me an email or message me on Facebook if you want to stay in touch. For those who have iPhones, lets FaceTime. Welcome to Phnom Penh

Well guys, I made it!!!! Its so crazy that I am in another country!!!! But it is ridiculously humid here, like I'm sweating just sitting here typing this haha. But today I have some orientation stuff to do. The host family I am staying with is super nice an I have a few other volunteers staying here with me as well. All of them are from Denmark. And we have some new people coming in from France and Singapore. Meeting so many cool people from different parts of the world. Well my jet lag was terrible this time. Literally couldn't sleep like the whole night because it was daytime back on Spokane. But it should eventually pass. Just wanted to let you guys all know I had made it and am doing well so far! Miss you guys!

Embarking On Another Adventure

Hey everyone,

Well it's that time again. Off on another international adventure. This time I will be volunteering at the the Cambodian Organization for Living and Training (COLT) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. My work includes working in an orphanage teaching English and playing with the kids. I will be living with a wonderful host family right in Phnom Penh. I can't wait to embark on this incredible journey, and I will be sure to update as often as possible!!! I will miss you all very very much and see you guys all in July!!!!
